Give the Insurance Company a Recorded Statement?

You were just in a car accident in Rhode Island or Massachusetts and were hurt. All of a sudden the other driver’s insurance company is calling you and asking for a statement; which is almost always recorded. What do you do?

Our normal rule of thumb is not to allow a recorded statement. However, there are some exceptions were it makes sense; but one will need the advice of an experienced accident injury lawyer in RI and Mass to help you with that determination. Never give a statement without the advice of an accident lawyer!

An instance where it may be a good idea is when the at-fault party (the other driver) is not telling the truth to their own insurance company even though the accident is clearly their fault. In this case, a simple statement of the facts by you can clear up liability and lead to the insurance company’s acceptance of liability. However, you must use caution when making this decision and it should only be made with an experienced lawyer.
